Joan Cheney

Joan Cheney has 20+ years of broad risk management experience in financial services. After joining Customers Bank in March 2022, she was elevated to her current position of EVP, Chief Risk Officer in August 2022. She came to Customers Bank after spending more than 10 years with Deloitte, rising to Managing Director in the Risk and Financial Advisory Practice and responsible for business development, eminence, and leadership of financial services, payments, operations, and technology engagements in support of client regulatory compliance and transformation. She drove cutting-edge thought leadership and engagements related to emerging technologies and topics (e.g., Blockchain, FedNow, and Intraday Liquidity). Joan specialized in Treasury and Liquidity transformation and technology solutions aligned to strategy and regulatory compliance. Prior to her role at Deloitte, Joan was a Vice President at BlackRock where she led the payments integration for BlackRock’s mergers with Merrill Lynch Investment Management and Barclays Global Advisors, and was the Global Product Manager for SWIFT trade and payment messaging for BlackRock and its Aladdin clients.

Joan earned a BA in English from New York University and completed work at the School for International Training. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP ) from the Project Management Institute.
