Minority-owned businesses, which already faced systemic disadvantages pre-pandemic, have been among some of the hardest hit during the recent economic downturn. Born out of the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia’s Recharge and Recovery PHL Initiative, this fund will seek to increase access to capital for these businesses through loans, grants, and community financing.

We are excited to continue working with local banks, CDFIs, the City of Philadelphia Government, and the Chamber on this important initiative.

Customers Bank Provides 95 New Bikes and Helmets to Elementary Students Participating in the Books for Bikes Program

Despite COVID, our partners – United Way of Berks, YMCA of Reading, and the Alvernia University South Reading Youth Initiative – were able to conduct a safe and successful summer reading program through four different centers. The coordinated program had more than 100 students participating and 95 successfully completed the program to earn a new bicycle provided by Customers Bank. New to the program this year is the national organization, Bikes for Kids. They were able to supply us with the bikes, which are in very short supply around the nation due to the pandemic. The 44 smaller bikes for pre-school, kindergarten and first-grade learners came “some assembly required.” Fortunately, we have some real mechanics on our team. This team, with some friends from the United Way and Alvernia, built them all and performed safety checks. Bikes were delivered to the children during the last couple of weeks in August!
